Hargrave High School students in Julia Schull’s aquatics class have taken on the challenging task of designing the pond that sits on the campus of Huffman ISD’s new elementary school set to open for the 2018-1029 school year. The students worked in groups to conduct research and design elements of the pond site, from water quality to which plants and fish will work best together for a stable ecosystem.
The top eight of 24 initial groups presented their designs on Friday, January 19, to a panel of Huffman ISD, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Bond Management Services representatives. The panel chose the top two teams to come up with a final pond design, making sure to incorporate the strongest elements from each groups’ projects.
The students in the winning groups are DD Dickerson, Laycie Edwards, Gavin Kearse, Alaina Ponce, Sebastian Saldivar, Coby Scott, Sebastian Shojaei, Hunter Slaughter and Jordan Dainton.
